I support the latest proposal for expansion of T.F. Green. Too much time and money has been spent on its decision and the residents who are affected deserve to have an answer now. The airport is an important source of jobs and economic development and investing in it will help improve our economy. I am concerned, however, about the environmental impact as a result of the expansion of the safety zones and want to be assured that any changes address the issue. Our natural resources must be protected.
I believe that all Rhode Island familes deserve the same legal protection that marriage brings. The U.S. Constitution guarantees us all equal protection of the law, and Rhode Island should guarantee that to all families. I proud to have served as chair of Marriage Equality Rhode Island before I was elected, and continue to support their efforts as a State Representative.
I believe we need to pass legislation that controls the cost of health care, makes it more affordable, and is accessible to everyone. As a small business owner I have witnessed firsthand how health care costs have skyrocketed in recent years. The current price increases are unsustainable and we need to pass legislation that ensures costs will be contained. I believe health care is a right and also want to guarantee that everyone has insurance.
Rhode Island needs to be an innovator in renewable energy. I believe we have to do everything possible to find cleaner, renewable sources. I have sponsored legislation in the House to provide incentives for companies to use biofuels, and to increase research and development of biofuel technology. I also support the building of wind turbines, tax credits that create jobs for weatherization of homes and businesses and investment that encourages new sources of energy that protects our environment . We need to develop these resources with a concern about the potential cost increases.
I am proud to have been involved in the effort to help secure public access to Rocky Point. Working with the Small Business Administration, the Rocky Point Foundation, and the Department of Environmental Management has been a very rewarding and productive process. By joining together we have been able to ensure that everyone can enjoy a great piece of Rhode Island history.
